Kyle Still I'm a big fan of Steve's songwriting and guitar playing. This did not disappoint. Favorite track: Dusted Mind (Live at the Transfigurations Festival).

John Cratchley An eclectic mixture from Steve Gunn...electric (and beautifully echoplexed) studio recordings and live festival acoustic/electric pieces...instrumental and vocal, structured and more freeform ('Suntwice')...
At the time of this release (2009)I think, yes,he was probably underrated generally (certainly not by those in on the act)...but,hopefully this has been remedied some and Steve's more recent work has garnered him the acclaim he deserves from a wider audience.

Favorite track: Wythe Duet (feat. John Truscinski).

about

Steve Gunn’s prodigous talent for fusing traditional American song structures with a raga influence is almost criminally unheralded. Gunn’s songcraft is so strong and his playing style so effortlessly beautiful that folks should be shouting his name from every tall building and mountaintop. His artistic trajectory over the past several years has shot straight through the stratosphere over such powerful albums as Boerum Palace and Sundowner. Too Early For The Hammer provides a glimpse into Gunn's powerful live playing style, improvisational skills and long-form songwriting skills. Too Early For The Hammer was performed and recorded by Steve Gunn at different locatations. "Lansdowne Shuffle" performed and recorded by Steve Gunn in 2009. "Dusted Mind," "No Atlas" and "For Harvest" performed by Steve Gunn and recorded by Cory Rayborn at the Transfigurations festival at the Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville, NC, on August 14, 2009. "Wythe Duet" performed and recorded by Steve Gunn with Jon Truscinski (drums) in late 2009. "Suntwice" performed by Steve Gunn and remastered since the original release on a CDR by the same name. Originally released as a limited edition of physical CDs that were included with all pre-orders of Steve Gunn's Boerum Palace LP.
